Hello!
Joe here, I’m one half (piano), and manager of hardanger d’amore and piano duo Charlie Grey and Joseph Peach. If you’re reading this page, first of all thank you very much for taking the time to have a look.
Charlie and I are looking to start working with a record label. This year, our catalogue passed one million Spotify streams. With that and some of what’s detailed below, our recorded music-making together has reached a point where collaborating with a label would be a brilliant next step, and there’s a lot we can bring to the right collaboration.
This page contains a bunch of info - about Charlie and I’s upcoming album, which is potentially a good jumping off point for working together, and our past projects - including: A 13 episode collaborative podcast series; a gig on St Kilda - an uninhabited island 200 miles into the Atlantic ocean; a TV documentary on a tall ship and a bunch of other stuff: Recorded, live, TV/film, advertising, theatre, session jobs and collaborations.
With all that, this is quite a long page, so here are some quick links to various accounts and things to watch/listen to:
| Website | Instagram | Facebook | Spotify | Apple Music | Bandcamp | YouTube | Album 5 Mixes |

Bio:
Charlie Grey and Joseph Peach are a hardanger d’amore and piano duo from Scotland. Their music is equal parts improvisation, re-interpretation of ancient melodies and original writing.
Their music touches upon different worlds, drawing in equal parts from 1940s field recordings of old Gaelic songs, contemporary classical sound-worlds, intuitive improvisation and backgrounds deeply rooted in the music and culture of the West Highlands of Scotland - for Charlie through his grandmother, renowned gaelic singer Ishbel MacAskill; and for Joe through his grandfather - a crofter, fisherman, gaelic singer and fiddle player.
Charlie performs on a Hardanger d’Amore, made in Norway by Salve Håkedal. His is one of 34 of such instruments in the world, and the only example in the UK. First conceived in 2010, the Hardanger d’Amore combines elements of Norwegian hardingfele, the violin and the viola d'amore.
Charlie and Joe started making music together at the age of 16, whilst still in high school. More than a decade later their collective music making continues to grow and develop. Theirs is a musical partnership which will last a lifetime.
Album 5:
In summer 2023, the duo completed work on their 5th studio album. Working title Smuaintean (which translates from Scots Gaelic approximately to English as contemplations).
Mixes can be found here (please note these are un-mastered and tracks have working titles)
The album was written and recorded in a week-long residency at Ardkinglas House. Working in this setting and in this way has allowed the duo to achieve their most refined and emotionally mature work to date.
Ensuring that refinement is reflected in the sonic quality of the record, engineer and co-producer Mattie Foulds printed the album to tape and mixed it through Tony Visconti’s former Trident TSM desk using almost entirely analogue processing at EchoZoo studios.
Aside from mastering the audio is complete. As are some live performance videos shot in-stitu at Ardkinglas.
The duo are planning towards a spring 2024 release, with an album preview show at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections Festival (confirmed), and a launch show at the Duncairn in Belfast (confirmed). A range of other performance leads are currently being worked on in Scotland, London and the Republic of Ireland. PR can be undertaken by Clare Horton (Print) and WildKat PR (Radio and DSP).
The indicative launch date is 26 April.
Of course, release plans can be changed.

Spiorachas - A High Place - October 2021: The work was first conceived in a week-long residency at Snape Maltings, generously supported by Britten Pears Arts. This is their most successful recording to date, with a particularly warm reception among classical music fans. The album featured on Spotify’s highly competitive Classical New Releases playlist, as well as a number of further editorial play-listings. It has now been listened to 845,913 times, and received airplay on BBC R3 inside music and across Scala Radio.
Live in Concert - April 2020: In 2020 the duo released their third album Live in Concert, recorded at a 2019 performance at Glasgow’s City Halls.
Air Iomall - August 2019: Air Iomall is - a film and suite of new music, written on a voyage aboard the tall ship Wylde Swan to some now uninhabited islands deep in the North Atlantic, some of Scotland’s most remote, and remarkable places. The album was met with warm critical and public acclaim, described as “Excellent” by the The Sunday Times and receiving ★★★★ reviews from Songlines and RnR magazines.
The album was released alongside a half hour documentary film which provided a visually stunning, sensitive insight into under-documented and enigmatic landscapes and culminating with a concert of their new music on St Kilda - the most remote part of the UK, on the 88th anniversary of the evacuation of its native population. Post-release, Air Iomall was bought and recut by BBC Alba. It was first broadcast by the BBC in winter 2020, and continues to be shown regularly.
Waves Rise From Quiet Water - September 2016: This is the album with which Charlie and Joseph’s career together began. The album was shortlisted for FATEA Magazine’s 2016 Instrumental Album of the Year and the following year, the duo reached the final of BBC Radio 2’s Young Folk Award.
